Mega run for road safety in 21 cities with over 20000 participants

India is amongst the top countries in road accidents. A total of 486 476* accidents were reported in the year 2013 in which 509 667* people were injured and 137 572* persons were killed. Growing population of vehicles, poor infrastructure facilities and scant regard for traffic rules are the major factors responsible for the road mishaps.

For Total, safety is of paramount importance in all the activities and businesses. Across the globe, Total has always endeavored to create a strong safety culture. Total has a strong commitment to safety – ‘Safety First’ and ‘Safety for me, for you, for all.’ In line with Total’s commitment to safety, Total India launched Total Quartz Safety Run to create awareness about road safety and safe driving practices amongst various stake holders such as trade partners, customers and employees. Total Quartz Safety Run was launched across 21 cities of India in association with a leading radio station.

The cause of road safety was promoted through radio campaigns for a period of one month. People were engaged with various aspects of road safety. They were educated on safe driving practices by government authorities, civil bodies and NGOs. The listeners were urged to join the movement and participate in the run for road safety to be held in their respective cities. Total’s trade partners and employees were invited to communicate the road safety message on the radio. Besides radio, the initiative was also publicised through press releases, billboards, posters and campaigns in residential areas.

Total Quartz Safety Run received an encouraging response and support from government and civil authorities, NGOs, celebrities and educational institutes. The initiative evoked a good response from general public. People across the 21 cities took a pledge to follow and promote road safety.  At the end of the month, the entire campaign culminated in mega run across all cities simultaneously. In these cities, over 200,000 people of all age groups participated in the mega run in support of road safety.  This initiative helped in generating more awareness about road safety and safe driving practices.
